Venom Movie In 'Same Reality' As MCUThe planned Venomspinoff film will exist in the “same reality” as the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe according to Sony former exec Amy Pascal. Following Sony and Marvel’s decision to collaborate on the newest incantation of Spider- Man featuring Tom Holland, fans have started to wonder how this partnership will eventually flourish in the long run. With Spider- Man: Homecoming tracking to be a success, possible future projects together have been thrown out in the conversation including the aforementioned Venom film, as well as, the Silver Sable and Black Cat movie. However, it seems like there is a bit of misunderstanding regarding how the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Spider- Man spinoffs will be treated in terms of overall canon narrative.

Pascal previously said that Venom plus Silver and Black are adjuncts to the MCU which caused some confusion given that just a couple of days prior, Marvel’s Kevin Feige was pretty definitive about not having plans of Venom crossing over to the MCU. Now brand new comments regarding the situation have come to light courtesy of Pascal. While doing a set of press rounds for Homecoming, the film producer talked to Fandom and cleared the air up regarding the confusion: “First, there is Spider- Man happily in the place where he’s supposed to be which is in the Marvel Universe. I think everything comes from that. This is the signpost, the tentpole, the signature and… the other movies that Sony’s going to make, in their relationship to this [MCU] Spider- Man, take place in this [separate Sony] world. Although you’re not going to see them in the Marvel Universe, it’s in the same reality.”Feige, who was also present in the interview seconded his co- producer’s statement saying that it is “the perfect answer.” Understanding the statement, it seems that we are back again to Pascal’s earlier stance about the MCU and the off- shoots “adjunct” with each other. This time, however, both of the film execs are in unison about it, contradicting the previously existing stand on the piece that the two cinematic worlds are separate. Basing from Pascal and Feige’s most recent consensual comment it sounds like they are keeping things in limbo for now which gives them time to sort out any possibilities of crossovers in the future without committing to it to the public right away.

By not having a definitive plan (which more likely is how it is behind closed doors), they are not tied to something that might eventually fall apart before it event started. And we suppose talks are continuously going on behind closed doors especially with Feige seemingly on board, this time, with how Pascal explained the whole situation. In hindsight, it is quite difficult to imagine a Venom film without Spider- Man in it as the web- slinging superhero is very much part of the former’s character narrative. But it’s also difficult to have Holland’s incantation of the character appear in Hardy’s film without acknowledging the fact that he has attachments to the Avengers. While fans would love to see Venomeventually be a part of the MCU – even in just a small way, it is not easy as it seems.

There are a lot of things to consider both from business and creative perspectives and Marvel and  Sony will have to revisit their existing deal and possibly come up with a new one that includes the arrangement on how they will treat the spinoff films.
